The ground denotations in the land system of the NBLS work for both mechanized or infantry armies. However, mechanized armies stop at the Garrison denotation, whilst infantry armies go on to 144 units, three garrisons, or a phalanx.

The system for the spheres of air, sea, and space is very similar, with only three names differing between sea and air/space. Assemblies are the highest groups of aircraft, ships, or spaceships. Multiple assemblies are not given a title.
